Estes Proto-X

This is the first quad I ever owned. It was lots of fun, I wanted it to be small so I could fly it around my office. I always wanted one and this particular model was available on prime at the time. I got to modifying it right away I don’t think it last 48 hours in its stock state. Here is the first attempt really ugly but functional at shedding some weight.

Removed canopy, used gaffer tape instead, high impact foam to protect the feet.

The experiment began, where is the best place for the battery? What Props? What Feet?

Currently I have one like the one below, pretty much stock with the exception of the neon green pain which helps with orientation with the lights off and the Loom Bands. The extra weight towards the front from the bands makes it really tilt forward and give it lots of speed. I don’t crash too much anymore with this little guy as we have become one but at first some kind of feet where needed to help extend the life of the motors a bit.

Another couple things we have done is use the HUBSAN Remote Control 4-Channel, 2.4GHz (TX)  , I can not stress how big of an upgrade this is…. the small controller it comes with makes it way harder than it need to be to learn to fly it. Once we bound to the new controller you get a bunch of added benefits.

  1. Longer Range
  2. Longer Throw = Smoother Flight
  3. Yaw and Throttle Trim
  4. LED on and off
  5. Flip Function (the newer models already have in expert mode)
  6. Two Modes with adjustable expo
